Weekly Update 1/15/18
Hi there, my name is Tyler and I run, write for, and operate ComicBookWire. The past few weeks have been a combination of recovery from the holidays and extensive work on the ComicBookWire website. I’ve been reading a lot of books recently, which means I’ve been able to fill the site up with more reviews, continuity breakdowns, and timelines than ever before. So without further ado, lets take a look at some of last week’s work and what we can expect to come this week.
Last Week
- Batman Vol. 7: Endgame
- Red Hood and the Outlaws Vol. 2: Who is Artemis?
- All-Star Batman Vol. 2: Ends of the Earth
- Indestructible Hulk Vol. 1: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
- Monstress Vol. 1: Awakening
- The Signal (Duke Thomas) Timeline
Last week’s reviews were a little all over the place but mostly served to accomplish a few of the site’s goals. The Red Hood and the Outlaws and All-Star Batman reviews helped in covering some more recent comic book releases, as both of these volumes came out within the past few months. Meanwhile, the Indestructible Hulk review helps prepare for futures reviews of the Daredevil series, since there is a crossover between the two books (our Daredevil reviews can be found here).
One of my favorite reviews of the week was Monstress Vol. 1: Awakening. I had wanted to read this series for a while now but had just never gotten around to picking it up. This week, I gave it a shot and was instantly drawn into this wild world of fantasy by the compelling storyline and insanely creative artwork. The read was a blast and the review was one of my favorite things to write recently (you can find the review right here).
In addition to reviews, my reread of Batman Vol. 7: Endgame (found here) helped in the preparation of the Signal Timeline. This timeline follows the history of the DC Comic’s character Duke Thomas, who’s first solo comic came out two weeks ago. In response to this solo series, I wanted to provide readers with a fully detailed reading order for this character, in case anyone wanted to read more about him before or after experiencing him on his own. This timeline can be found right here.
This Week
This week’s focus will be mostly on timeline creation. Recent additions to ComicBookWire’s DC Comics Timeline collection have become some of the most popular pages on the entire site. To address this, I have put a great deal of recent effort into the creation of new timelines and the preparation of even more. This week I hope to release a timeline for Harper Row (a supporting character in the recent Batman series) and the Justice League. You will be able to find them later in the week in the DC Comics Reading Order page right here.
In terms of new comics, this week sees the release of Damage #1, the first issue of a brand new DC Comics series. I’ve been very excited about this series for a while now, so finally being able to read it is going to be a real treat. The creative team of Robert Venditti, Tony S. Daniel, and Danny Miki sounds incredible and gives me even more confidence that this is going to be a fun read. You will be able to find ComicBookWire’s review of this comic on the site’s homepage Wednesday evening.
That’s it for this week! If you want to stay updated on everything ComicBookWire is up to in the future, make sure to follow ComicBookWire on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest, where you can be sure to stay up to date on everything that happens. Either way, thanks for reading and have a wonderful week!
