Three Colors Trilogy Watching Order
The Three Colors Trilogy is a unique series of films from director Krzysztof Kieślowski. Each film tells a mostly independent story centered around a different ideal from the French Revolution. Blue is about liberty, White is about equality, and Red is about fraternity. While these films are mostly independent from one another, they still share a common connection, which we’ll be exploring here.
This watching order is designed to give an outline of the entire Three Colors trilogy. It explains what order to watch the Three Colors movies and looks at any connections between them.
Three Colors Watching Order
The actual order for the Three Colors Trilogy is very straightforward. It starts with Blue, continues with White, and ends with Red. This is the order the films were released and is the best way to approach them.
However, there aren’t too many connections between these films so there is a little leeway to this watching order. Blue and White only briefly mention each other. So, theoretically, you could watch these two in any order. What is important is watching Red last. Red briefly shows characters from both Blue and White in a way that continues their story. In addition, the ending of Red is thematically connected to the endings of the first two films. We still recommend watching the films in order but, if you decide to watch them out of order, just make sure to save Red for last.
