Planet of the Apes Reboot Series Watching Order

The Planet of the Apes franchise (Watching Order) extends all the way back to 1968, when the first film was released. This initial film introduced viewers to a world where apes ruled over humans and are now the dominant species on Earth. This initial film was followed by a series of somewhat confusingly related sequels and even a remake.

In 2011, the entire franchise was rebooted and replaced with a new series of films. These new movies explore how that ape-dominated world from the original movie came to be. They start with a world similar to the real world and show how this world slowly changes and develops.

Planet of the Apes Reboot Series Watching Order

The Planet of the Apes reboot series starts with Rise of the Planet of the Apes. This film introduces the premise of the series and many of the main characters. This is followed by Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and, then, War for the Planet of the Apes. These films, when watched together and in order, tell a straightforward storyline about the titular “planet of the apes”.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (Continuity) is the next film in the series and takes place generations after War for the Planet of the Apes. This distance in time separates these films somewhat and makes Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes more standalone than its predecessors. You can choose to watch the first three films before Kingdom, as they do provide some helpful background info, or you can jump into Kingdom without watching anything else first.
