MonsterVerse Watching Order
The MonsterVerse starts with Godzilla (2014). This film introduces a new film universe in which Godzilla and other kaiju have yet to appear.
Godzilla (2014) mostly focuses on the emergence of Godzilla into an unsuspecting world. This first film in the MonsterVerse series also introduces a number of concepts that will be further explored in subsequent films.
Godzilla is followed by Kong: Skull Island. This film is a flashback to events taking place long before Godzilla. It introduces King Kong, builds on concepts from the first film, and concludes with information that hints at what will happen in the franchise’s next film.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters picks up on information from the conclusion of Kong: Skull Island while also serving as a direct sequel to Godzilla (2014). This film, once again, focuses on Godzilla but also features the rise of several other kaiju. The conclusion of this film helps to directly set up the next film.
Godzilla vs. Kong is the first major crossover in the MonsterVerse. It features the return of Godzilla and King Kong while also highlighting Monarch, MUTOs, and other concepts that were developed in the previous films. In this way, Godzilla vs. Kong continues the character arcs running through these movies while also significantly building on the lore they established.
