“Toph Beifong’s Metalbending Academy” is the latest Stand-Alone Avatar Comic
After the announcement of the Katara and the Pirate’s Silver stand-alone Avatar: The Last Airbender comic, it was unclear what to expect next from the Avatar: The Last Airbender comic series. Previously, the comics were released as graphic novel trilogies, with The Promise Part One – Three (Review) as the first entry and Imbalance Part One – Three (Review) as the most recent. Katara and the Pirate’s Silver broke this trend by being presented as a stand-alone entry in the Avatar world.
Now, Toph Beifong’s Metalbending Academy is set to be the next stand-alone entry in the Avatar world. This comic is set after the events of The Rift (Review) and will center around Toph’s attempt to find new excitement in her life.
The details for Toph Beifong’s Metalbending Academy can be seen below. Note, solicitations like these may change dramatically as they move toward publication.
- Summary: Things are looking bright at the Beifong Metalbending Academy! But after all the adventures Toph’s had with Aang, Sokka, Zuko, and Katara, the whole thing feels a bit dull. And while out and about to celebrate, Toph discovers something that just might put the sparkle back in her eye…
- Creative Team: Written by Faith Erin Hicks (The Adventures of Superhero Girl, The Nameless City) and drawn by Peter Wartman (Stonebreaker), with colors by Adele Matera and collaboration from Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series writer Tim Hedrick.
- Release date: February 16, 2021

Is there a proper review (similar to the reviews of the six graphic novel trilogies) currently in progress for this installment of the Avatar universe?
