New 52

With the beginning of the New 52, the DC Universe and the Wildstorm Universe were combined and reset. In this new universe, Caitlin Fairchild’s previous adventures never happened and her history was wiped away. She is reintroduced here as a scientist working on the Superboy cloning process, which jump-starts the rest of her adventures.

Incubation

Caitlin Fairchild is a scientist working for N.O.W.H.E.R.E., a mysterious organization with potentially villainous motives. She is instrumental in the creation of Superboy, a clone with half human and half Kryptonian DNA.

After a brief period of existence, Superboy begins to question the organization that created him. He approaches Caitlin and demands that she answer questions about his origins. This threat forces Caitlin to reveal that she has only been working for N.O.W.H.E.R.E. to help destroy it. She also reveals her metahuman powers; she has the ability to grow into a larger, stronger version of herself. Superboy and Caitlin fight for a moment but N.O.W.H.E.R.E. employees quickly arrive and arrest Caitlin.

Not long after this, Superboy is approached by an NYPD detective who encourages him to set Caitlin free. He agrees and delivers Caitlin to the detective, who helps nurse her back to health.

Sometime after her arrest, Rose Wilson, Caitlin’s close friend and fellow N.O.W.H.E.R.E. employee, discovers files Caitlin left behind. They expose some of the organization’s secrets and encourage Rose to quit. However, Rose stays with N.O.W.H.E.R.E. and resents Caitlin for leaving.

This storyline extends through issues 1-7 of Superboy Vol. 6. These issues are collected in Superboy Vol. 1: Incubation (Review).

The Culling

With help from her new detective friend, Caitlin Fairchild is able to steal a ship from A.R.G.U.S. so that she can reach the Colony, a secret N.O.W.H.E.R.E. facility where teenaged metahumans are forced to fight to the death. The winner of these fights becomes a Ravager, one of N.O.W.H.E.R.E.’s elite agents. Rose Wilson is one of these Ravagers.

Once there, Caitlin approaches a group of teenagers and helps them escape. However, on their way out, they run into Rose Wilson. Rose is upset that Caitlin lied about her motives and feels betrayed by her former friend. The two fight and Caitlin tries to convince Rose to leave her employer. Although Rose remains unconvinced, Caitlin’s words convince Ridge, a current Ravager. Ridge turns on Rose and helps Caitlin escape with a group of former prisoners.

After their escape, Rose discovers where they are headed.

Caitlin’s involvement in this storyline extends through issue #8 of Superboy Vol. 6, issue #9 of Legion Lost Vol. 2, and issue #9 of Teen Titans Vol. 4. These issues are collected in The Culling: Rise of the Ravagers (Review).

The Ravagers: The Kids From N.O.W.H.E.R.E.

After leaving the Colony, Caitlin and a group of other escapees end up somewhere in the wilds of Alaska. Caitlin struggles to keep the group together and attempts to bring them to a safe house that she knows about. Along the way, they dodge an attack from Rose Wilson and are temporarily captured by Brother Blood and his cult.

Eventually, the group reaches the home of Niles Caulder, who offers them sanctuary.

This storyline extends through issues #1-4 of The Ravagers Vol. 1. These issues are collected in The Ravagers Vol. 1: The Kids From N.O.W.H.E.R.E. (Review).

The Ravagers: Game Changer

At their new base, Caitlin and the rest of the escapees discuss their future. They learn that teenaged metahumans are still being tracked down and captured, and they decide to do something about it. They all start training so they can use their powers to save others.

Their first trial comes when they attempt to save a young metahuman from being captured. They are immediately attacked by several N.O.W.H.E.R.E. operatives. They are able to beat the first two but the second two, Rose Wilson and Warblade, are more skilled. After thinking about what these people did to her, Terra is driven wild with rage and uses her powers to defeat the villains. She then tries to kill Warblade, despite protests from the rest of her team. However, the villains are able to escape in the confusion, leaving the team worried about Terra’s new killer nature.

This storyline extends through issues #5-7 of The Ravagers Vol. 1. These issues are collected in The Ravagers Vol. 1: The Kids From N.O.W.H.E.R.E. (Review).

Legion Lost: Planetcide

When the Legion Lost comes across a threat with the power to destroy the planet, they ask for all the help they can get. In response, Caitlin’s detective friend brings Caitlin and her group into the situation. They help fight the villain and end up saving the entire planet.

Caitlin’s role in this storyline extends through issues #14-16 of Legion Lost Vol. 2. These issues are collected in Legion Lost Vol. 2: The Culling (Review).

The Ravagers: Fathers

Caitlin and the rest of the group come across Rose and Warblade reluctantly trying to cure a metahuman virus running rampant through a small town. Though they are all suspicious of the villains’ motives, they decide to wait and see if they are able to stop the virus. The crisis is averted and the heroes and villains part ways.

This storyline extends through issues #8-9 of The Ravagers Vol. 1. These issues are collected in The Ravagers Vol. 2: Heavenly Destruction (Review).

The Ravagers: Heavenly Destruction

Just when things seem to have settled down, Deathstroke arrives at the team’s base. Deathstroke is working for  N.O.W.H.E.R.E. and is carrying a dagger that appears to set anything it touches ablaze. He uses this dagger to “kill” each of Caitlin’s friends.

Caitlin is only saved thanks to intervention from Rose Wilson. Caitlin and Rose attempt to escape Deathstroke by fleeing to the lab’s secret basement. However, in this basement, Caitlin discovers a host of clones that look exactly like she does. Deathstroke arrives and explains that Caitlin herself is a clone and that he killed the original Caitlin Fairchild a long time ago. He then stabs Caitlin with his dagger, setting her on fire and seemingly killing her.

Later, it is revealed that Deathstroke’s dagger was actually a teleporter, allowing him to bring all of his victims back to N.O.W.H.E.R.E. All of the victims are then kept in some form of stasis, where they await an uncertain future.

This storyline extends through issues #10-12 of The Ravagers Vol. 1. These issues are collected in The Ravagers Vol. 2: Heavenly Destruction (Review).

Team 7

Five years before the clone Caitlin’s introduction, the real Caitlin Fairchild is working for the Army’s Advanced Prosthetics Research Center. Suddenly, due to the intervention of a sentient robot, all of the lab’s robotics begin to go haywire. The robotics attack the human workers and replace their minds and bodies with robotic parts.

Team 7, which Caitlin’s father is a part of, is called in to deal with the mess. They find the area overrun with robots and eventually find Caitlin. Her father approaches her but she kills him, clearly under the complete control of the robots. To put her out of her misery, Deathstroke kills her.

Caitlin’s involvement in this storyline extends through issues #5-6 of Team 7 Vol. 2. These issues are collected in Team 7 Vol. 1: Fight Fire with Fire (Review).
