Wonder Woman Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of major storylines featuring Wonder Woman (Diana of Themyscira) throughout DC Comics. It may not encompass every one of her appearances but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

New 52

With the beginning of the New 52, the DC Universe’s continuity was reset. Almost all of Wonder Woman’s history was wiped clean and her earlier appearances were no longer considered in continuity.

In this era, Wonder Woman’s story primarily plays out through her solo series. This comic redefines her origin and contains the bulk of her adventures. She also appears as a member of the Justice League (Reading Order) and takes part in a number of adventures alongside Superman. Besides all of this, as one of DC’s most popular characters, Wonder Woman also makes brief appearances in many other comics.

Notes
  1. These issues mostly focus on Batwoman (Reading Order) but feature Wonder Woman as a supporting character.
  2. Wonder Woman is a member of the Justice League (Reading Order) in this era. In most of the League's appearances she serves in a supporting role or plays a contributing part in a larger group effort, which does not contribute much to her story. For these appearances, this reading order links ComicBookWire's "Justice League Reading Order" to prevent this reading order from becoming overly complicated. Larger or more significant appearances are listed separately and explained where indicated.
  3. Wonder Woman is a major player in the Trinity War (Reading Order) event and has a larger role here than in most Justice League issues.
  4. These issues have Wonder Woman in a pretty small role. However, they show what Wonder Woman did during the Forever Evil (Reading Order) event.
  5. These issues only feature Wonder Woman in flashbacks. However, they expand upon her relationship with Steve Trevor, which was hinted at in the Justice League series.
  6. Wonder Woman only has a small role in this miniseries. However, readers interested in seeing her interacting more with Batman and Superman may fined it interesting.
  7. Wonder Woman has an extensive partnership with Superman throughout this era, mostly stemming from a moment in Justice League #12. However, few of her appearances alongside Superman have an impact on her progression through this era and many of them only have her in a supporting role. For these appearances, this reading order links ComicBookWire's "Superman/Wonder Woman Reading Order" to prevent this reading order from becoming overly complicated. Larger or more significant appearances are listed separately and explained where indicated.
  8. These issues mostly focus on Deathstroke (Reading Order). However, they directly relate to concepts from Wonder Woman's life and are even mentioned later on in her solo series.
  9. These issues mostly focus on Aquaman (Reading Order) but feature Wonder Woman as a supporting character.
  10. These issues mostly focus on Batman but feature Wonder Woman as a supporting character.
  11. These issues mostly focus on Sinestro (Reading Order) but feature Wonder Woman as the leader of several supporting characters.
  12. Most of Harley Quinn's (Reading Order) solo stories appear to take place within their own continuity. However, the events of this issue are casually mentioned during the Justice League vs. Suicide Squad (Reading Order) event in the Rebirth era.
  13. These issues directly continue Cassandra's story from the Wonder Woman series and reveal some hidden truths about Lennox. They also have Wonder Woman in a supporting role.

Rebirth

The transition from the New 52 to the Rebirth era does not immediately introduce any continuity changes for Wonder Woman. Instead, it picks up relatively where it left off in the previous era. However, many retcons begin taking place in the first several arcs of the Wonder Woman series and large pieces of her New 52 history are, presumably, wiped out as a result of the Superman: Reborn (Reading Order) event.

In this era, Wonder Woman's storyline primarily plays out in her solo series. This comic starts by revealing truths that significantly refine her history. Then, the Wonder Woman series goes on to address lingering plotlines introduced at the conclusion of the Justice League: Darkseid War (Reading Order) event, from the previous era. Outside of this series, Wonder Woman continues to serve as a member of the Justice League (Reading Order) and continues to make brief appearances in many other comics. The era then concludes with Wonder Woman playing a part in the Justice League: No Justice (Reading Order) event, a part that directly impacts her status quo going into the next era.

Notes
  1. This story arc is mostly about Superman (Reading Order). However, Wonder Woman has a small, supporting role that helps establish her relationship with Superman in this era.
  2. For the first twenty-five issues, the Wonder Woman series alternates between the present and the past; the odd numbered issues take place in the present while the even numbered issues take place in the past. These two storylines are mostly separate and, thus, are collected in separate volumes. However, there is an interplay between these storylines that plays out as they progress, with the present storyline often alluding to what happened in the past while the past storyline foreshadows things that happen in the present. Therefore, we recommend reading the series in the order it was published, allowing both storylines to progress simultaneously. However, it is just as possible to read the storylines separately, by simply reading the collected volumes in order of their number. Ultimately, how one chooses to approach this series is a matter of personal preference.
  4. This issue of the Trinity (Reading Order) series is a tie-in to the Superman: Reborn (Reading Order) event. Though this event is mostly about Superman (Reading Order), it also alters Wonder Woman's history with Superman and, thus, is tangentially important to her story.
  5. Wonder Woman is one member of DC's Trinity (Reading Order), with the other two members being Batman and Superman. Most of her appearances with the Trinity involve her playing a contributing part in a larger group effort, which does not contribute much to her story. From these appearances, this reading order links ComicBookWire's "Trinity Reading Order" to prevent this reading order from becoming overly complicated. Larger or more significant appearances are listed separately and explained where indicated.
  6. Only the "Dreaming of a White Christmas" story from DC Rebirth Holiday Special #1 and the "Solstice" story from DC Holiday Special 2017 are relevant to this reading order.
  7. This story arc is mostly about Green Arrow (Reading Order). However, Green Arrow #27 is a team-up with Wonder Woman and Green Arrow #31 sees some of the fallout from that team-up.
  8. Wonder Woman has a brief appearance in Dark Days: The Casting #1 that helps set up her later appearances in the full Dark Nights: Metal (Reading Order) event. In addition, the events of Batman: The Merciless #1, though not directly featuring Wonder Woman, introduce concepts that are relevant to Wonder Woman's appearances later in this event.
  9. These issues are mostly about the main members of the Birds of Prey (Reading Order). Wonder Woman is one of many supporting characters in a massive team-up of DC's female heroes.
  10. The inclusion of Looney Toons characters in this story indicate it probably falls outside of the typical DC continuity. However, it still features Wonder Woman in a starring role.
  11. Wonder Woman is one of several supporting characters in the Milk Wars (Reading Order) event. Though her role isn't too large, it provides a unique twist on her character that is not seen elsewhere.
  12. These issues are mostly about Batman. However, they feature Wonder Woman in a way that highlights the friendship between these two.
