Mera New 52 Reading Order
This reading order is designed to show exactly how to read the Mera New 52 comics. It will walk you through an explanation of how to read Mera comics in this era and then provide you with a list of Mera New 52 comics. By the end of this article, you’ll be ready to read Mera comics with no problem at all.
Mera New 52 Reading Order
With the start of the New 52, the DC Universe was reset. This effectively wiped away almost all of Mera’s history. At the start of this era, she is still a hero with some ties to Atlantis but those ties haven’t been fully explored yet. In addition, the retcons that took place through the Brightest Day series appear to remain in continuity. Finally, her relationship with Aquaman (Reading Order) still exists but has significantly regressed, to the point where it seems the relationship is relatively new.
Mera starts to reestablish her presence as a hero through the Aquaman series. In this, the Geoff Johns Aquaman run (Reading Order) reintroduces audiences to Mera and starts to explore her connection to Atlantis and Xebel. This is most prominently expanded upon in Aquaman Vol. 4: Death of a King (Review), which is the climax of the entire run.
After Geoff Johns’s Aquaman run, other comics continue to explore ideas and concepts that were introduced in that run. Aquaman #26 to Aquaman #40 mostly focus on Aquaman but still feature Mera as a supporting character. Later on, Aquaman #41-48 shuffles things around for all of the characters, particularly Mera, and expands on her family (though future comics mostly ignore this storyline). In general, these issues have less lasting consequences for Mera than the issues that came before and the issues that come after.
Finally, Aquaman #49-52 present a relatively light adventure that wraps up most things that have happened in this era. At the same time, the writer of these issues, Dan Abnett, starts setting up things for the next era, as he writes the bulk of Mera’s adventures in the Rebirth era. Readers following along for this whole journey should not miss these final few issues and even new readers can feel free to jump in around this point, as doing so will prepare them for the Rebirth Mera adventures (Reading Order).
