Lady Shiva Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of major storylines featuring Lady Shiva (Sandra Wu-San) throughout DC Comics. It may not encompass every one of her appearances but is a timeline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

New 52

At the beginning of the New 52, the DC Universe was reset. In this new continuity, almost every character’s history was mostly wiped clean and they were reintroduced to the DC Universe. It is unclear how much of Lady Shiva’s past was removed, as her past is almost never mentioned. However, it is clear that her reputation as one of the world’s greatest fighters is still known in this new continuity.

Shiva is reintroduced in the Nightwing series. In this comic, she is the primary antagonist but not much about her is revealed. Later on, her connection to the League of Assassins is established. Her connection to this organization is expanded upon most significantly in the Secret Six series, where she is also the primary antagonist.

Notes

These issues feature Lady Shiva as one of several members of the League of Assassins working under Ra's Al Ghul. These issues are primarily about other characters, with Shiva mostly serving in a supporting role. However, they may be interesting for readers who want to see more of Shiva's interactions with the League.

Rebirth

For Lady Shiva, there do not appear to be any significant continuity changes from the previous era to this one. However, her specific adventures from the previous era are not really referenced. The only thing that is referenced is her general connection to the League of Assassins.

Lady Shiva's only role in this era is within the Detective Comics series. In this comic, she is a major figure for the entire "League of Shadows" story arc. This arc expands on Shiva's connection to the League of Assassins and establishes her connection to Cassandra Cain (Reading Order), otherwise known as Orphan.

Universe

The Universe era is essentially an extension of the Rebirth era and, as such, does not introduce any significant continuity changes for Lady Shiva. Instead, her appearances in this era heavily build upon the connection she established with Orphan (Reading Order) in the previous era.

Lady Shiva's only role in this era is within the Batman and the Outsiders series. In this comic, she becomes involved with the Outsiders team-up because Orphan is on the team. At first, she only plays a small part in the series but her role becomes more prominent as the comic progresses.
