Green Lantern (Jessica Cruz) Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of major storylines featuring Green Lantern (Jessica Cruz) throughout DC Comics. It may not encompass every one of her appearances but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. New 52

Jessica Cruz was introduced in the later half of the New 52 era and does not have appearances prior to this era.

Jessica was introduced through the Justice League series, where her heroic origins and early association with the Justice League (Reading Order) began. Her role in this comic caused her to become directly involved in the Darkseid War (Reading Order) event and established her status quo upon transitioning into the Rebirth era.

Rebirth

The Rebirth era directly continues Jessica Cruz's story from the conclusion of the Darkseid War (Reading Order) event from the previous era.

This era mostly sees Jessica step up to her new role as a Green Lantern and as a member of the Justice League (Reading Order). Her adventures as a Green Lantern mostly play out through her costarring role in the Green Lanterns series, where she shares the spotlight with Simon Baz (Reading Order). Meanwhile, her adventures as a member of the Justice League mostly play out through a moderately small role in the Justice League series. Many of the unanswered questions and unresolved plotlines, like Jessica's traumatic past and her relationship with Barry Allen (Reading Order), are addressed through these comics.

Justice League issues are from the Vol. 3 series

Notes
  1. Jessica Cruz is a member of the Justice League (Reading Order) in this era. However, in most of the League's appearances, she only serves in a supporting role or plays a contributing part in a larger group effort. For these appearances, this reading order links the Rebirth section of ComicBookWire's "Justice League Reading Order" to prevent this reading order from becoming overly complicated. Larger or more significant appearances are marked separately and explained further in this "Notes" section.
  2. This issue details Jessica's first mission alongside the Justice League and establishes her membership on that team.
  3. These issues focus on changes to Jessica's relationship with Barry Allen (Reading Order) and the Justice League (Reading Order).
  4. These issues place a larger focus on Jessica's development alongside her Justice League compatriots.
  5. The narrative in this story arc focuses on the impact of a potential version of the future. This version of the future directly relates to Jessica's current situation.
  6. A story from this issue shows Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz during the holiday season. It adds to their friendship but is not essential to their journey. In addition, only "The Epiphany" story from this issue is relevant to this reading order.

Universe

The Universe era is essentially an extension of the Rebirth era, as it maintains the same continuity. As such, Jessica Cruz's overall history essentially remains unchanged since her introduction. In this era, her story generally continues from the conclusion of the previous era, picking up on plot points from the end of the Green Lantern series.

Jessica starts this era with a major role in the Justice League Odyssey (Reading Order) series. This series stars other characters, like Starfire (Reading Order), Cyborg (Reading Order), and Azrael (Reading Order), however, it features Jessica more prominently and more consistently than anyone else. Outside of this comic, Jessica mostly makes quick appearances alongside other heroes or within the Dark Nights: Death Metal (Reading Order) event.

Notes
  1. Only the "Galentine's Day" story from this issue is relevant to this reading order. This story features a small appearance from Jessica Cruz that highlights her connection to a few of the other women on the Justice League (Reading Order).
  2. Only the "Fear 101" story from this issue is relevant to this reading order. This story appears to take place at some earlier point in Jessica's career as a Green Lantern, though exactly when is unclear. We placed it in this position because it was around the time this issue was published.
  3. Only the "The Voice" story from this issue is relevant to this reading order. This story appears to take place at some earlier point in Jessica's career as a Green Lantern, though exactly when is unclear. We placed it in this position because it was around the time this issue was published.
  4. Jessica has a small role in a few issues from the Dark Nights: Death Metal (Reading Order) event. Her role in Multiverse's End and Rise of the New God is moderate and highlights her alongside the other Green Lanterns from Earth. However, her role in Death Metal #3 and #6-7 is extremely small and is only included here to show that she was a part of the event in general.
