Flashpoint Batman Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give an outline of major storylines featuring the Flashpoint version of Batman (Thomas Wayne) throughout DC Comics. It may not encompass every one of his appearances but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

New 52

The Flashpoint Batman was introduced in this era and has no prior appearances to it.

During the Flashpoint (Reading Order) event the Flashpoint Universe, an alternate-timeline version of the standard DC Universe, was introduced. Along with this new version of the universe came a new version of Batman, who’s story was integral to the Flashpoint event as a whole.

Notes
  1. Flashpoint Batman's role in this comic is limited but is a unique extension of his storyline. However, later events appear to retcon these issues out of continuity.

Rebirth

The transition from the New 52 to the Rebirth era includes little to no continuity changes for Flashpoint Batman. Instead, his story picks up immediately where it left off at the conclusion of the Flashpoint (Reading Order) event.

In this era, Flashpoint Batman's main role is in the Batman/The Flash: The Button (Reading Order) crossover. This event brings him back into the comic book landscape. Besides this, he also makes another brief appearance that simply helps set up his role in the next era.

Notes
  1. Flashpoint Batman only has an extremely brief, non-speaking role in this issue. However, it helps tease his involvement in later issues of the Batman series.

Universe

The transition from the Rebirth to the Universe era includes little to no continuity changes for Flashpoint Batman. His story picks up immediately where it left off after the Batman/The Flash: The Button (Reading Order) and the Batman: The Wedding (Reading Order) events.

Flashpoint Batman has a far more prominent role in this era than he did before. He makes a number of appearances throughout the Batman series that directly tie him in to the major events going on in Batman's life. This forms a critical piece of Tom King's run on Batman (Reading Order).

Notes
  1. Flashpoint Batman does not actually appear in this issue. However, it heavily highlights a moment from Bruce and Thomas Wayne's past that appears to be the same for both the standard and Flashpoint versions of these characters. Flashpoint Batman makes a number of references to this moment in the "Fall and the Fallen" arc so understanding this reference can help enhance that arc.
  2. Flashpoint Batman makes minimal appearances in these issues. However, they help to slightly set up his role in future issues.
  3. This issue makes a joke about Flashpoint Batman that also features a brief appearance from him. However, the unclear continuity of the Harley Quinn (Reading Order) series means that this appearance is just for laughs rather than a strict piece of Flashpoint Batman's history.
