Overview

Doomsday Clock brings the Watchmen and DC Universes together in an event that has dramatic repercussions on both. The event serves as somewhat of a sequel to the events of Watchmen and serves as a culmination of the main narrative stretching through the DC Rebirth era.

Doomsday Clock is extremely straightforward, as it includes no tie-ins or complications. Fans simply need to read issues #1-12 in order.

Before Reading

Doomsday Clock builds on two specific narratives. The first is the original Watchmen story and the second is the main narrative running through the DC Rebirth era.

Fans only need to read Watchmen in order to understand the references to the Watchmen Universe. Though the Before Watchmen comics are also within the Watchmen Universe, they are not specifically referenced in Doomsday Clock.

In order to understand the references to DC Rebirth, fans simply need to have read the DC Universe: Rebirth (Review) one-shot. Technically, the Batman/The Flash: The Button (Reading Order), Superman: Reborn (Reading Order), and Superman: The Oz Effect (Reading Order) events expands upon the mysteries introduced in DC Universe: Rebirth. However, the actions taking place within these other events are not referenced in Doomsday Clock and simply serve as teasers for it.

After Reading

Right now, it is unclear where or if the narrative in Doomsday Clock will continue. The Dark Nights: Death Metal event seems to be reconciling Doomsday Clock with the current DC continuity but, as this event is still being published, the exact way in which this will happen is unclear.
