Etrigan Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give a timeline of major storylines featuring Etrigan the Demon throughout DC Comics. It may not encompass every one of his appearances but is an outline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

New 52

With the start of the New 52, the DC Universe was reset. Almost everything about Etrigan’s character, besides his connection to Jason Blood, is wiped clean. He is introduced as a member of the Demon Knights (Reading Order) through the Demon Knights series.

Etrigan’s primary role in this era is as a member of the Demon Knights. After his time with them, his entrance to the present can be seen in a few issues of Stormwatch. Then, his rebinding with Jason Blood can be seen in a few issues of Batwoman. From there, his appearances become more insignificant.

Notes
  1. This is a tie-in issue with the Futures End (Reading Order) event. This event takes place in a potential future timeline, so it has no real effect on the present. Therefore it is not necessary but still is a unique story featuring Etrigan.
  2. Etrigan mostly serves in a supporting role through these issues. However, they help confirm that his unique relationship with Jason Blood is maintained through this era.
  3. Etrigan is the antagonist through these issues but only plays an extremely small role. Swamp Thing #28 actually only has a cameo from Etrigan but is important in establishing the backstory for Swamp Thing Annual #3.
  4. These issues do not focus on Etrigan but do have him in a supporting role.

Rebirth

The transition from the New 52 to the Rebirth era included little to no continuity changes for Etrigan. His solo series actually made specific references to his actions in the Demon Knights series, confirming the preservation of his history.

Etrigan only makes a few appearances in this era. He plays a large role in a single issue of the Trinity (Reading Order) series. Then, he goes on to star in The Demon: Hell is Earth.
