Bluebird Timeline/Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give a timeline of major storylines featuring Bluebird (Harper Row) throughout DC Comics. It does not encompass every one of her appearances, but is a timeline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

New 52

Harper Row first started to appear as a character throughout the Batman series. This means that this timeline is the very start to her adventures and the perfect place to begin with her as a character.

Notes
Batgirl issues are from the Batgirl Vol. 4 series. Batman issues are from the Batman Vol. 2 series.
  1. These additional issues are included in order to explain what is going on in these two storylines. They are not necessary for Harper's story, one could just read the essential issues listed here and get the gist of what Harper is doing. However, these additional issues explain what happens in between Harper's appearances and provide context for the story as a whole. If you are just looking to understand Harper's story by itself you can skip these, but if you are looking to understand the story that Harper is a part of then these issues are necessary.
  2. Only the backup story, titled "People in the Dark", from this issue is relevant to Harper.
  3. There is a lot going on in the Batman Eternal series, Harper's story forms one of the many subplots the series focuses on. This means she is only in a portion of the total issues. We have separated issues where Harper makes appearances into the "Essential" column while issues without her are in the "Extra" column. However, in order to fully understand what is going on here, we would recommend reading all of the issues.
  4. Bluebird plays a very minor role here. These issues are not necessary to read but do show her current relationship with the rest of the Bat-family.
  5. Though her role here is rather minor, she appears in the series enough that it is included on this list. It is not a series that effects her life much but does show more about what she is up to in this era of DC Comics. An editors note states that her appearances here predate her adventures in Batman and Robin Eternal (despite these issues being published later).
  6. Bluebird is not in every one of these issues but is in the overwhelming majority. For this reason, we have marked all of these issues as essential, as skipping them would cause Bluebird's story to make less sense.
