Birds of Prey Reading Order

This reading order is designed to give a timeline of major storylines featuring the Birds of Prey throughout DC Comics. It does not encompass every one of their appearances, but is a timeline of the major ones and the stories that affect them.

The continuity details relating to each specific storyline are explained in the “Review” of each storyline. Every “Review” link will provide a detailed continuity breakdown of that story and will explain any reference the story makes to other aspects of the DC Universe. All of this can be found under the “Continuity” section of each link.

New 52

At the beginning of the New 52, the DC Universe was reset. Previous incarnations of the Birds of Prey were wiped away and, in this new reality, the team had yet to exist.

At the start of this new era, the Birds of Prey was formed by Black Canary (Reading Order), Batgirl, Starling, and Poison Ivy, however this lineup changes as the comic progresses. Their journey in this era is mostly confined to the Birds of Prey series but a few events and crossovers occur along the way.

Batman issues are from the Vol. 2 series.

Notes

1. This issue is a Futures End (Reading Order) tie-in. Since it takes place in an alternate version of the future, reading it is not necessary to understand the Birds of Prey's current situation.

Rebirth

The Birds of Prey's Rebirth adventures clearly take place sometime after their New 52 adventures, indicating that continuity is mostly unbroken between these two eras. However, aspects from the team's pre-New 52 adventures are also referenced in a way that implies those adventures are now a part of the Rebirth continuity (possibility due to the continuity altering events surrounding DC: Universe Rebirth or Superman: Reborn (Reading Order)). Despite all of this, for the most part, this era stands independent from its predecessors and tells a story with little relation to the past.

Their journey through this era is extremely straightforward. It takes place within the Batgirl and the Birds of Prey series and does not have many complications at all.
