News: A “Doom Patrol” series is heading to DC’s new streaming platform

Warner Brothers has just announced a Doom Patrol series for the DC Universe streaming platform, from executive producers Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Jeremy Carver, and Sarah Schechter. The series is set for release in 2019.

The Doom Patrol is a group of misfits, each suffering from some past trauma, who come together under the leadership of Niles Caulder (aka the Chief). In the world of comics, the team is famous for going on adventures deemed too strange or far-out for the average hero. This includes trips through lands of non-existence, journeys into one another’s minds, and space-faring adventures with a sentient ambulance.

Geoff Johns teasing the Doom Patrol’s appearance

About three months ago, Geoff Johns, co-creator of DC’s new Titans television series, tweeted out a tease that the Doom Patrol would be guest staring in an episode Titans. The Teen Titans and the Doom Patrol have a long history of interactions in the comic books, even sharing some members, so having them together on television made sense. However, besides guest appearances, not much was known about the Doom Patrol’s television future.

Now, we have confirmation that guest spots on Titans will only serve as the beginning for the Doom Patrol. The team will now be staring in Doom Patrol, with thirteen hour-long episodes already confirmed. Though the cast for the show hasn’t been confirmed, most are speculating that the characters from the Titans series will be reprising their roles. This cast includes Bruno Bichir as Niles Caulder/Chief, April Bowlby as Rita Farr/Elasti-Girl, Jake Michaels as Cliff Steel/Robotman, and Dwain Murphy as Larry Trainor/Negative Man.

The series is set to premier on “DC Universe,” the same streaming platform set to release the Titans series. Not much is known about how this platform will operate but fans are able to sign up to receive more information here.
