Marvel Television indicates we haven’t seen the last of the canceled Netflix shows
Earlier this week, Jessica Jones and The Punisher were both officially canceled. This meant that the last of Marvel’s live-action Netflix shows were officially gone. Many fans were devastated by the news and it seemed as if this was the end for these characters and their stories. However, a small glimmer of hope still remains.
An open letter from Jeph Loeb, Executive Vice President of Marvel Television, was released alongside the cancellation of these Netflix properties. The majority of the letter simply expresses gratitude towards the fans who made these shows such a success.
However, the letter goes on to say: “Our Network partner may have decided they no longer want to continue telling the tales of these great characters… but you know Marvel better than that.” It even ends with an optimistic “to be continued…” to further indicate that Marvel is not quite done with these properties.
It is unclear if this means that the shows will be continuing on some sort of other television service, such as the upcoming Disney+, or if they will continue in a comic book spin-off of some sort, similar to how shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Avatar: The Last Airbender were continued. Either way, it seems as if there is hope that we’ll be seeing these characters and their stories at some point in the future.
