Iron Man Post-Credits Scene Explained
This post-credits scene does several different things at the same time. It paves the way for the creation of the Avengers and establishes Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. as powerful entities.
The most important thing that this post-credits scene does is pave the way for the creation of the Avengers. The hint at the Avengers Initiative is vague at this point in the MCU but most comic fans recognize it as Marvel’s premier team-up of superheroes. This clearly indicates that the Avengers is going to be a group put together by Nick Fury and that will consist of superheroes across the MCU. This plot point has a moderate role in Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger before becoming a central feature in The Avengers.
This post-credits scene also gives viewers a glimpse of Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D.’s capabilities. The scene demonstrates that Nick Fury is more than capable of getting past any security system Tony Stark had set up in his home, he even appears to have disabled J.A.R.V.I.S.. Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D.’s role in Tony’s life becomes more prominent in Iron Man 2.
