Four New Comic Collections for James Cameron’s “Avatar” are on the Way

James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water is on the horizon. However, before it comes out, a variety of prequel comic book collections are set to be released. This includes one prequel to the original Avatar movie and three that will bridge the gap between Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water.

Avatar: Adapt or Die is currently set for release on February 28, 2023. This paperback volume is set to collect the comic book issues Avatar: Adapt or Die #1-6. This miniseries details events on Pandora that took place before the original Avatar movie. Essentially, it is a prequel for the entire Avatar franchise.

The other three books on the horizon are hardcover graphic novels in The High Ground series. This series takes place ten years after the original Avatar movie and deals with humans returning to Pandora. It is actually based on James Cameron’s original idea for a sequel to Avatar. It is also a direct prequel to Avatar: The Way of Water. The High Ground Vol. 1 is set for release on October 25, 2022, The High Ground Vol. 2 is set for release on December 6, 2022, and The High Ground Vol. 3 is set for release on December 20, 2022. With The Way of Water set for release on December 16, 2022, these prequel comics will be coming out around the same time that the movie hits theaters.
