Action Comics #1000 Hardcover with bonus content coming this Fall
Without a doubt, Action Comics #1000 is a landmark issue in DC Comics history. It featured several great stories, made numerous references to the history of Superman, and topped sales charts. Now, fans will be able to view the issue in a whole new light with the release of DC’s new “Super-Sized Deluxe Edition Hardcover” version of the issue.
Fans will be happy to hear that this new Deluxe Edition volume will not be a simple reprint of the original issue. It will include all of Action Comics #1000 but will also be coming with a host of appealing bonus content.
Most of this bonus content will relate directly to the issue itself, including:
- A variant cover gallery containing the eighteen unique retailer variants and the eight decade-themed variant covers.
- Scripts for every story from the issue.
- Side by side panel/page comparisons for the Peter J. Tomasi/Patrick Gleason story “Never Ending Battle” from Action Comics #1000.
- The original art for the Marv Wolfman/Curt Swan story “An Enemy Within,” from Action Comics #1000.
- Design sketches from Jim Lee, presumably showing his process in bringing back the infamous trunks on the cover of this issue.

In addition, some of the bonus content will simply provide readers will additional comic book stories that are relevant to Action Comics #1000. These include:
- A reprint of the Superman stories from Action Comics #1 & #2, chronicling the first ever appearance of Superman.
- The Paul Levitz/Neal Adams story “The Game.” This story was previously exclusive to the Action Comics: 80 Years Of Superman hardcover, which was released around the same time as Action Comics #1000.
No matter how you slice it, this is a pretty impressive collection. The level of bonus content here is something we typically do not see outside of an Absolute Edition, yet is available at a substantially lower price point. I already purchased my fair share of Action Comics #1000 variants but the bonus content here ensures that I’ll be picking up this version as well.
This Deluxe Edition Hardcover will be available in comic shops on September 26th and elsewhere on October 2nd at a suggested retail price of $19.99. DC’s official announcement of this collection can be found here.
